Fixing mesh defects (fans, cracks, shore steps)

Mesh defect repairs

  1. DSF › choose a DSF › Defects › scope (a window around a place or the whole tile) › Run detector.
  2. Filter the result by type and severity, 3D shows the place.
  3. Defect repairs › Repair shown (n) (or Repair at one defect) › Preview › Write repairs (n) into a new DSF.
  4. Run the detector again on the new version and compare the counts. Verify the place in X-Plane (copy the GPS with the button).

Fans, thin and degenerate triangles are repaired by a local remesh, a wall or step at the shore by smoothing the land in a strip by the water, a jagged road by levelling the corridor across. What fails verification is skipped with a reason. A building in a road can be changed only in an editor project (In editor). Defects caused by the input data (e.g. a fan at a dam) are better fixed at the source and the tile regenerated.

Not verified: defect repairs in X-Plane
Repairs are verified geometrically (0 cracks, orientation, boundary). A visual check in X-Plane has not been done yet for any defect type – look at the repaired place in the simulator.
