📌 Release 0.12.0-beta — what's new

RF Studio 0.12.0-beta is the biggest beta so far: it brings a new Airport mode, custom 3D parts and several new editor tools. Projects and data from previous versions are kept – simply install the new version over the old one.

Airport mode

  • Airports are now part of the project. Take one over from X-Plane (Custom Scenery, Global Airports) or from the Scenery Gateway, or create a new one – an airport, a heliport or a seaplane base.
  • Edit runways, paved surfaces, markings, lighting, ramp starts, signs, PAPI and more directly in the editor; every change can be undone. The taxi route network for ATC and ground traffic is drawn like any other item.
  • Airport check points out problems by the WED rules before you export, and offers a Fix for many of them.
  • The export writes the airport into the scenery package (apt.dat) and for WED. For a new paved surface Studio adds a base scenery exclusion by itself, so no trees grow on it in X-Plane.

Custom parts

  • New part… – build a building or another object from materials and building elements; Studio saves it as an X-Plane object.
  • Import model… – converts a 3D model (glTF/GLB, OBJ, STL, FBX) into an X-Plane object and optimises it: textures are packed into one atlas, levels of detail are added and dense scans are simplified.
  • Hard surfaces – a roof, helipad, platform, pier or bridge an aircraft can touch down on; part checks and Show in place – you see the part in 3D on the terrain before saving it.

New tools

  • Scatter – many objects at once along a line, in an area or in a grid; it stays one editable item.
  • Power line – draw a route and Studio builds poles or pylons with wires the way X-Plane draws them.
  • Fences – a fence, wall or hedge along a line; plus garden items, facades and windows in any size.
  • Building – a building from any footprint with a roof, windows and materials; the OSM import can build custom buildings from heights and roof shapes.

Faster work in the editor

  • Bulk edits – find and replace a part, select by filter and group templates.
  • Command palette (Ctrl+K) and custom keyboard shortcuts, including profiles like WED or Blender.
  • A gizmo for moving and rotating, snapping and alignment.
  • The Library with categories and icons switches to match the selected tool.

Water

  • The terrain tools no longer change the water level; the bank slope of new water is adjustable, also after filling.
  • Beaches, roads and bridges at changed water are written correctly, and the edit output is a finished X-Plane scenery package.

The license agreement (EULA) is unchanged in content – version 1.2 now applies to all RF Studio beta versions.

Please post your feedback and problems in the Beta testing & bug reports subforum; send the file from the Report a problem window (it contains logs from your computer) only by e-mail to RFstudio@simulators.cz. Thank you!
